South Dakota State University seeks an energetic academic leader with strong strategic vision, significant successful administrative and budgetary experience as well as outstanding academic credentials and strength in fostering diversity, to facilitate the College of Education and Human Sciences’ transformative academic efforts. The new Dean, who will report to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, will have a singular opportunity to develop a newly formed college into a model of increased research and interdisciplinary academic scholarship, teaching, outreach and service through extension. The new College, with an annual budget of $10 million, offers fifteen undergraduate majors and master of education, master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees to 2,300 students.
South Dakota State University is a vibrant, complex Carnegie Research University-High Intensity institution. As South Dakota’s largest university and within its land-grant mission, it is a major resource for economic development for the state and enrolls over 10,000 undergraduates and another approximately 2,000 graduate and professional students. The next Dean must have an earned doctorate and a distinguished record of academic performance consistence with appointment as a tenured full professor in a discipline appropriate to the College. He or she will be a visionary person of proven leadership ability and high integrity with a strong record of successful research and grant activity as well as successful administrative leadership of a complex academic college or department. The new Dean will bring a commitment to furthering the mission of a Land-Grant university; a multi-faceted successful administrative experience, including personnel, budget and organizational management; and outstanding communication and collaboration skills. Successful experience with issues relative to academic programmatic mergers would be valued.
