One of the challenges deans and provosts face is linking budgets to academic priorities. In times of shrinking resources, this challenge increases in magnitude. The American Conference of Academic Deans (ACAD) is offering a one-day workshop providing a practical forum for academic officers to problem-solve with their peers on this important and timely topic.
The workshop will be held on the downtown (Water Tower) campus of Loyola University of Chicago on July 28, 2003. Academic deans, associate deans, and other academic administrators with primary responsibility for academic budgets are invited to attend this one-day (9:30 am - 4:30 pm) event, which will be facilitated by Peter Facione, Provost at Loyola and former ACAD Board Chair; Jeanne Narum, Director of the Independent Colleges Office (ICO) and Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL); and James Pence, Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies at Pacific Lutheran University and current ACAD Board Chair. The workshop will offer practical strategies for budget management and fundraising in fiscally tight times, and provide participants with time for small group discussion focusing on problem-solving and sharing best practices. The facilitators of this workshop have over 60 years combined experience, and recognized expertise, in budget management, fundraising, and leadership development in academic settings. Registrants will be invited to participate in an electronic discussion beginning a couple of weeks before the event in order to get the conversation started.
